1. Changelog
OpenNMS 15
Release 15.0.2
Breaking Changes
A security issue in the RadiusAuthenticatinProvider
has been fixed (Issue NMS-10212)
This requires changes to the radius.xml
file located in ${OPENNMS_HOME}/jetty-webapps/opennms/WEB-INF/spring-security.d
.
Now instead of providing a bean for the authTypeClass
property, it is sufficient to just provide the class name:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<beans:beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/security"
xmlns:beans="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-3.0.xsd
http://www.springframework.org/schema/security http://www.springframework.org/schema/security/spring-security-3.1.xsd">
<beans:bean id="externalAuthenticationProvider" class="org.opennms.protocols.radius.springsecurity.RadiusAuthenticationProvider">
<!-- ... -->
<beans:property name="authTypeClass"><beans:bean class="net.jradius.client.auth.PAPAuthenticator"/></beans:property>
<!-- ... -->
</beans:bean>
</beans:beans>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<beans:beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/security"
xmlns:beans="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-3.0.xsd
http://www.springframework.org/schema/security http://www.springframework.org/schema/security/spring-security-3.1.xsd">
<beans:bean id="externalAuthenticationProvider" class="org.opennms.protocols.radius.springsecurity.RadiusAuthenticationProvider">
<!-- ... -->
<beans:property name="authTypeClass" value="net.jradius.client.auth.PAPAuthenticator"/>
<!-- ... -->
</beans:bean>
</beans:beans>
Supported values for authTypeClass
are:
-
net.jradius.client.auth.TunnelAuthenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.PAPAuthenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.EAPMSCHAPv2Authenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.MSCHAPv2Authenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.EAPMD5Authenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.CHAPAuthenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.MSCHAPv1Authenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.RadiusAuthenticator
-
net.jradius.client.auth.EAPAuthenticator
If no value is provided net.jradius.client.auth.PAPAuthenticator
is used.

Release 1.9.0
Release 1.9.0 is the latest in a series of development releases of OpenNMS. This represents what will eventually become OpenNMS 1.10.0 when it is declared feature-complete and stable.

2. Known Issues and Caveats
Here is the list of known issues in this release of OpenNMS:
2.1. Current Release
While an attempt was made to test the UI with Internet Explorer, there may be some lingering issues with IE. It is recommended that you use Chrome or Firefox with the OpenNMS UI.
Additionally, there has been significant refactoring of the remote pollers, and you should upgrade all remote pollers to 14.0.0.
2.2. OpenNMS 1.12.7 and Newer
As of OpenNMS 1.12.7, we have replaced the code that creates the OpenNMS web UI with the standard jetty.xml instead.
This means that if you need to do any customization (adding AJP support, changing limits on threads or post sizes, etc.) you can now do so by editing a standard jetty.xml file instead. While most of the simple Jetty configuration properties from $OPENNMS_HOME/etc/opennms.properties are still supported, it is strongly recommended that you instead copy $OPENNMS_HOME/etc/examples/jetty.xml to $OPENNMS_HOME/etc/jetty.xml and edit that, rather than relying on properties from the config file(s).
The majority of users will have to change nothing, but if you have done any configuration changes relating to Jetty, you may need to review them.
3. Supported Systems
3.1. Supported UNIX-like OSes
OpenNMS is written almost entirely in Java, and should be able to run on any system that supports the Sun Java Virtual Machine — OpenNMS 14 requires Java 7 or higher.
The following are the systems that support or are known to run OpenNMS:
3.2. Fully Supported
The following systems are supported out-of-the-box with native installation packages:
-
RPM-based Distributions (Using Yum)
-
Red hat Enterprise Linux 5 and higher
-
CentOS 5 and higher
-
Fedora 19 and higher (including 64-bit)
-
-
Debian and Ubuntu Linux: Debian packages for Wheezy and later are available at the following apt repository:
deb http://debian.opennms.org/ unstable main
These same packages should work equally well with modern Ubuntu releases.
-
Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 or Higher: Note that while it is technically possible to install on FAT32, NTFS is the only officially supported filesystem for Windows installs. Additionally, while Windows is supported, OpenNMS is much more heavily tested (and easier to maintain) on UNIX, and it is recommended that unless you have a specific reason to go with Windows, that you use one of the supported UNIX-based operating systems.
3.3. 3rd-Party Dependencies
OpenNMS 14 requires Java 7 JDK or greater, and PostgreSQL 8.4 or greater. In addition, for native RRD support (as opposed to the builtin Java-based JRobin round-robin database), RRDTool 1.2 is required.
